Base64 turns binary data into transport-safe text and shows up in Basic Auth headers, tokens, email and Data URIs. This tool handles text with full UTF-8 support and files, produces ready-made Data URIs and supports the URL-safe variant used inside JWTs. Remember that Base64 is an encoding, not encryption.

  1. Type text or load a file and choose encode or decode.
  2. Enable URL-safe mode when the result goes into a URL or a JWT.
  3. Copy the output, or for images take the ready-made Data URI.

Frequently asked questions

Is Base64 secure?
No. Anyone can reverse it. Use real encryption to protect data — Base64 only changes the representation.
What is the difference between standard and URL-safe Base64?
URL-safe replaces + and / with - and _ and usually drops the = padding.
Why is the output larger?
Base64 maps every 3 bytes to 4 characters, so the data grows by about 33%.
