Hash Generator
Generate MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, SHA-384 and SHA-512 hashes of text or a file — with HMAC support.
This tool runs entirely in your browser; the file is never sent to a server. Note: MD5 and SHA-1 are deprecated for security purposes — use SHA-256 or higher for digital signatures or password storage.
ABOUT
Generate MD5, SHA and HMAC hashes and compare against a reference
A hash is a one-way fingerprint of data, used to verify downloaded files, compare content and sign requests (HMAC). This tool hashes text and files, computes HMAC with a secret key and compares the result with a reference hash so you can confirm a file was not tampered with. Do not use fast hashes to store passwords.
HOW TO
How to use it
- Enter text or load a file.
- For HMAC, type the secret key.
- Paste the publisher’s hash into the compare box to see whether it matches.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
Is MD5 still safe?
It is fine for catching accidental corruption but not for security (signatures, certificates) because collisions are practical. Use SHA-256 or stronger.
Should I store passwords with SHA-256?
No. Passwords need slow, salted algorithms such as bcrypt, scrypt or Argon2.
How is HMAC different from a plain hash?
HMAC mixes in a secret key, so only someone who knows the key can produce the same value.
